After a fairly significant update to the Mazda3 and Mazda3 Sport last year, the 2018 models see only minor detail changes. The big news from the 2017 refresh was the first application of SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics, Mazda’s vehicle dynamics control technology, as well as the enhancement of the company’s i-ActivSense safety technologies. Externally, the sedan and hatchback saw a bolder grille, available LED headlights and taillights, plus a redesigned rear bumper on the Sport. Interior upgrades included available perforated leather seats surfaces and a redesigned leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel. Other improvements included an available electronic parking brake that frees up space for storage, and a sliding covered centre console design borrowed from the Mazda6. There continues to be a choice of two engines for the compact cars — a 155-hp 2.0L four-cylinder and a significantly more powerful 2.5L four (184 hp). Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automaic.
