The new 2017 Elantra enters its sixth-generation by offering a more aerodynamic design, an all-new powertrain, better ride quality, improved noise insulation and comprehensive safety features. Under the hood is a new 2.0-litre “Nu” MPI Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder producing 147 horsepower 132 pound-feet of torque. Hyundai claims it is the only Atkinson engine to be combined with multi-port injection in the compact class. The engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a new six-speed automatic. In addition, all Elantra trims are equipped with the new Drive Mode Select feature that adjusts both powertrain performance and steering calibration, allowing the driver to customize the car’s driving character by selecting from three modes: Eco, Normal or Sport. Elantra brings a long list of available technology including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a hands-free proximity-activated trunk, heated rear seats, and an integrated memory system for the driver seat and exterior mirrors.
