BMW hints at new 8 Series concept coming to Geneva

Teaser image posted to Twitter may hint at M8 Gran Coupe or four-door coupe

BMW tweeted out a teaser image of what looks like a new 8 Series Gran Coupe late February, promising a Geneva debut for the sleekly silhouetted car in the rendering.

The image shows a car with classic sports-car long-hood short-deck proportions, as well as a small trunk spoiler and large wheels that may hint at this being a M8 Gran Coupe performance model, as opposed to a lower-spec 8 Series.

To further stir interest, a vertical cutline right down the middle of the bodyside suggests the render is of a sedan — or perhaps what BMW’d prefer to call a “four-door coupe.”

Whatever it is, there’s a decent chance it’ll get the same powerplant as the new M8, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 generating 592 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, channeled through an eight-speed transmission to all four corners via BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive.

The Geneva Motor Show next week will see the car’s full reveal.
